PPC Facts and Rumors

Facts and Rumors about Pay Per Click Marketing

There are various rumors spread, mostly by inexperienced and misinformed search engine marketing companies, about Pay Per Click marketing. Most are 100 percent false and completely misguided. Digital Digg spends very much time on a regular basis exposing these myths for all that they really are, which is usually outright lies. To help you better differentiate myth from fact, here is a list that we have put together of some of the most common false rumors about PPC.

Myth: Hardly anyone ever really clicks on these advertisements.

Truth: Actually, studies show that pay per click advertisements account for up to 20 percent of website viewers. They also show that paid advertisements provide the most accurate results for users who search for long, detailed phrases. Because in these cases users are searching for the most qualified results, paid advertisements are usually the most relevant. If this isn’t enough, our hundreds of clients could even personally tell you that this myth is nothing but wrong.

Myth: Click fraud will quickly increase your costs and bring about unrelated visitors.

Truth: Though search engines at one point were incapable of tracking and logging user clicks, now they are more in control than ever. The techniques used today can log each user’s individual IP address and match it with several other factors including the amount of times they click on your ad. Click fraud is nearly nonexistent specifically with Google, since Google only charges each ad once a day for any given IP address. Even more aggressively taking action against click fraud, Google catches odd clicking trends by computers that repeatedly click on the same ads day after day, blocks them from clicking the ad ever again and refunds the advertiser’s money. Even though some unrelated accidental clicks occur, it does not happen nearly as often as people make it out to happen.

Myth: My competition will drain out my budget long before any actual people can visit my ad.

Truth: Like any other internet traffic, your competitor’s clicks are also tracked and logged in the search engine marketer’s system. If Google finds any repetitive clicking patterns after several days, the computer’s IP address will be blocked and Google will refund your money.

Myth: Pay Per Click advertisements do not encompass all keywords for which users search.

Truth: On the contrary, PPC ads range on an even wider spectrum of keywords than do average search results, especially with more extensive phrases where geographic qualifiers do not come into play. Your ads will appear in various alternatives of phrases, giving you coverage over an entire spectrum of relative searches.

Myth: My advertisements will only appear in ambiguous locations.

Truth: This is nothing more than another method used to scare you. Our PPC advertisements only appear on the search engine that you’ve intended, Google, Yahoo or MSN and their search engine partners like AOL, Earthlink, Netscape, Ask.com, etc.

Myth: Pay per click advertising companies only care about making a profit.

Truth: Though this may not be true with some companies, Digital Digg will always charge you one flat fee. Other companies may charge you a percentage of your company’s advertising budget, encouraging you to spend more so that they can make more. However, you can count on us to be sure that no matter what.
